Waldorf Summer Camp to Begin June 27

Waldorf Summer Camp, located at 1062 Cherry Hill Road in Montgomery Township will begin its summer camp on June 27. The camp will run until August 5.  In addition to a day camp for children ages 4 – 11, there are a variety of specialty camps available for children ages 10 – 14, including outdoor sports/circus arts, outdoor naturalists, theater, sculptural arts, woodworking and art.  Both camps begin at 8:30 a.m. and end at 1:00 p.m., with an option for an extended day until 3:30 p.m.

Situated on the Waldorf School of Princeton’s 20 acre campus of fields, forests, stream and gardens, the summer camp provides a balanced, healthy environment for children to enjoy summer days.  Activities for the 4 – 11 year old campers include crafts, tie-dye, singing, painting, storytelling, gardening, bread baking, puppet shows and cooperative games.  The camp is designed to nourish a child’s connection with nature and to enliven their sense of wonder and imagination.

The staff includes teachers and graduates from the Waldorf School and artists from the local community. “The Waldorf Camp is inspired by the wonder of nature, and each summer I enjoy welcoming children for a joyful and healthy experience on the Waldorf School of Princeton’s beautiful campus”, said Jean Alexander, Camp Health Director.

The specialty camps offer children ages 10 – 14 the opportunity to explore a specific area in depth.   The sculptural arts camp is taught by Pamela Shafer, a Waldorf teacher and ceramic artist. Students will work with clay from the creek bed, and will fire the pottery in outdoor kilns, using a Japanese method called Raku.  Waldorf teacher Peter Sciarretta will lead an outdoor activity and circus arts camp.  Campers will experience juggling, unicycling and stilt walking – all while learning the principles of sportsmanship.  For more information and to register please contact Jean Alexander at 609-466-1970 x142 or at summercamp@princetonwaldorf.org.
