A Field Guide to Summer Fun from Fernbrook Farms Education Center

It’s time for your children to conquer new worlds, to make new friends, and to forge new connections. It’s time for them to turn off the computer and the TV and venture outside. It’s time to plug into nature and explore the wonderful world that awaits at Fernbrook Farms Education Center.  At Fernbrook, summer campers have the ability to nurture their interest in the natural world and understand the connections between agriculture, people, and the planet. They will foster new friendships while building self-esteem and creating fun-filled memories. Sure, their hands might get dirty. To be honest, they’ll probably get a lot dirty. But by nurturing their natural curiosity and allowing them to experience the farm and the woods firsthand, they’ll develop a sixth sense – a sense of appreciation for our planet, our environment, and each other. Fernbrook Farms Summer Camps offer age appropriate programs that emphasize personal growth and skill development.

Fiddlehead Day Camp for age groups 6-8 and 9-11 is an enriching experience unlike any other.  Every day your children will choose from new activities that broaden their world and nurture their connections to nature, history, and ecology.  Adventures on our farm and in our woods will inspire and educate your children while still letting them have fun and be themselves. Experienced camp counselors will guide your children in structured groups of no more than ten.

Some fun-filled Fernbrook activities include:

-       exploring the ponds and creeks looking for frogs and insects

-       feeding pigs and other farm animals

-       harvesting vegetables from our Children’s Garden

-       building a shelter and learning about wilderness survival

-       crafting musical instruments from objects found in the woods

-       collecting eggs from our henhouse

-       starting a campfire with a bow drill

The Young Stewards Summer Enrichment Program for young adults ages 12-14 focuses on local agriculture, ecology and community.  Weekly day trips and overnight camping trips will allow your children to discover the natural diversity of New Jersey. Young Stewards will visit local farms and the pitch pine forests of the Jersey Pine Barrens, explore the New Jersey coastline, paddle local waterways, and engage in a weekly beautification project. Guided by experienced staff, campers will engage in activities that promote teamwork, leadership and ecological awareness.

Fernbrook Farms Camp is a time to experience new things, try a hand at the unexpected, and make lasting friendships.  Don’t let your children miss out on this life-changing experience. Space is limited. To make reservations for your children, call Fernbrook Farms Education Center at (609) 298-4028 or visit the Education Center online at www.fernbrookeducation.org.

Formed in 2001, The Fernbrook Farms Education Center is a nonprofit outreach program that exists to educate children and adults about agriculture, food and the environment. We provide year-round programs for families, schools, scout groups, toddlers and homeschooled children.
