Wyomissing Hills, Pa - To help seniors who want to remain in their own homes and stay as self-sufficient as possible, Kurt Marttila has joined Seniors Helping Seniors® in-home services to serve Mercer County, New Jersey seniors and their families.
Seniors Helping Seniors in-home services is a national caregiver and companionship organization and the only one that matches seniors who need in-home care services with seniors who provide them.
The mission is to provide seniors with the ability to choose an independent lifestyle in their own homes, for as long as possible, with the dignity and respect they deserve by finding caring seniors to help each other.
“Seniors Helping Seniors in-home services allows me to serve multiple groups in our community. It’s an ideal opportunity to connect active seniors with those seniors who require some assistance to maintain their independence. The Seniors Helping Seniors model matches seniors based upon the services needed, as well as common interests. We provide a broad range of non-medical services, allowing people to remain in their own homes and live independently, while also enabling senior Providers to help others, stay active and supplement their income,” said Kurt Marttila, Franchise Owner.
He continued, “Our goal is to provide meaningful improvements in the lives of seniors and their families through our professional delivery of outstanding services. We want our Seniors Helping Seniors office to be the first place that seniors call, both those in need of services and those seeking meaningful opportunities to help others. We will be a valuable resource for families, healthcare professionals, social workers, and financial and legal professionals in our community.”
The Marttila family moved to Lawrenceville, NJ in 1979. After graduating from the Lawrenceville School and then Duke University, Kurt spent most of his career in international business development, living and working in Germany, Thailand, and Panama. But more recently, he helped his parents through a variety of physical and emotional challenges. “My parents have gone through open-heart surgeries, knee replacements and radiation treatments. Last year, my mom moved into a continuing care facility – and then back out again! I’m fortunate to have been able to run some errands, provide handyman services, and even help out with the sale of my parents’ home... but I know these are the kinds of demands that can stretch many families to a breaking point.”
Finally, when his father passed away after an extended illness, Kurt decided to pursue a different path. His experiences have helped Kurt recognize the challenges that seniors face and the services required to help them age in place, with the dignity and respect they deserve. He continued, “Throughout these past few years, we have been surprised and disappointed by our experience when assistance was needed. I am committed to helping those who are facing similar circumstances to have a more positive experience.”
Kurt lives in Princeton, where he is active in his community, serving as the President of Princeton Little League Baseball and Softball. He and his wife, Lisa, have three children, Susannah, 13; Teddy, 11; and Elizabeth, 7.
