Good Grief in Princeton is Expanding
May 22, 2013
In February, Good Grief began serving grieving children, teens, and families throughout the Princeton area. In just three months, we already find ourselves having to expand our services to meet the tremendous need in Central New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania.
When Good Grief opened its doors, we knew this day would quickly be upon us. From the beginning, we have been working hard to meet everyone in the community, spread the word about children's grief, and ensure that no child ever has to grieve alone.
Currently, we have more than 20 families and 60 participants enrolled in our program. Most of them live within a 15 mile radius of Princeton. Keep in mind that we plan to serve children within a 45 mile radius of Princeton, while our Morristown facility serves Northern New Jersey. I have, personally, had the privilige of getting to know each of the 60 participants in our programs. Many of them experienced the death of a parent or sibling within the past year and many have spent years searching and hoping to receive support right here in their community. The Good Grief community is a lifeline for many of them.
In order to continue expanding to meet the need, we are asking for your help. Approximately 20,000 children lose a parent in New Jersey each year. As you can see, there is much work to be done. Here are ways to help the children of Good Grief:
Become a Facilitator - Volunteers, people just like you, go through a 36-hour training and make a year long commitment to Good Grief. These kind and compassionate individuals facilitate our groups twice a month. Our next facilitator training is June 7-10th from (9:30-5:30pm all four days). email:
volunteer@good-grief.org
Spread the Word - 1 out of 7 children experience the death of a parent or sibling before the age of 20. Help us educate communities and inform community organizations of this need so that grieving families can easily find Good Grief and receive the support they need.
Come on a Tour - Visit Good Grief at 12 Stockton Street in Princeton to learn about our mission, how we do what we do, and why receiving support after the death of a loved one is so crucial. Tour dates are on our website.
Become a Hope League Member - Hope League members donate $1,000 a year or more for five years and help Good Grief sustain its mission for the future. Good Grief's free programs cost Good Grief $5,000 per family.
Host a Friendraiser in Your Home or Community - Invite friends, family, colleagues, or neighbors to Good Grief or your house to learn more about Good Grief and the ways we are providing children with coping skills for the rest of their lives.
There are many ways to make a difference in the life of a grieving child and we cannot do it without your help. As families come to Good Grief to rebuild their lives after the death of a loved one, they not only receive support but they also gain hope for the future.
With your help, we can expand our programs to support an additional 20 families in September.
Thank you for your support and your willingness to help Good Grief ensure that no child ever has to grieve alone.
