
New Residents' Checklist
- VOTER REGISTRATION
- MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSES -- New residents must obtain New Jersey
driver's licenses and motor vehicle registration within 60 days. The Motor
Vehicle Department is on Route 1 at Bakers Basin Road. Call 530-4208
(Bakers Basin Testing Station) or 588-2424 (Trenton headquarters).
- DOGS AND CATS -- Both Princeton Borough and Township require dog
licenses (renewed every January). Licenses cost $8.20 if the dog is
spayed or neutered, $11.20 if not.
Call 924-3118 (Borough) or 924-5704 (Township).
State law requires that all dogs have rabies vaccinations, by either a
private veterinarian or the municipal clinic. The Regional Department of
Health urges residents to have their cats vaccinated for rabies. For clinic
hours, call the Regional Health Department (497-7608).
- DOCTOR/DENTIST REFERRAL -- See the Health Services section in
this publication.
- NEWCOMERS CLUB -- This club orients new residents to the Princeton
area and provides social and cultural activities which encourage
friendship. Women may belong during their first four years of residence.

- RECYCLING CONTAINER AND GARBAGE REMOVAL -- Recycling is
MANDATORY in New Jersey.
