Andrea Wulf, Author of Brother Gardeners and Founding Gardeners, to Speak at The Present Day Club June 9, 2011
Andrea Wulf, author of Brother Gardeners and the recently published Founding Gardeners, will speak at The Present Day Club at 72 Stockton Street in Princeton at noon on Thursday, June 9. Sponsored by Morven Museum & Garden, the talk will be followed by lunch. Wulf’s three-month United States speaking tour has taken her to all parts of the country, where audiences have been fascinated at her revelations about the founding fathers—George Washington, John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison—and their passion for planting, gardening, and agriculture.
A British design historian, Wulf studied the personal correspondence of her subjects to create a rendering of American history that promotes a richer understanding of the architects of the nation. Madison, she writes, was the original environmentalist, sounding warnings about soil depletion and destruction of old-growth forests. “Seed boxes” sent across the ocean helped create international goodwill among early Americans.
Cost to the lunch and lecture is $40 for members of Morven, $45 for non-members. To make a reservation, call 609-924-8144 ext 106, or email Michelle Sheridan at msheridan@morven.org.
