The 2009 Community Service Award will be presented to Joseph Fath, Jewish community leader, chemist, writer, and painter, at this year‚s Annual Meeting of United Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks. The meeting, during which new officers to the Federation‚s Board of Directors will also be elected and installed, will be held at The Jewish Center in Princeton on June 22 at 7:00 pm. The evening will also feature presentations by Lisa Smukler as Federation‚s Incoming President and special acknowledgments will be given to Outgoing President Daniel F. Brent.
Joseph Fath became an active member of the Jewish community upon his arrival in Princeton with his wife Ruth in 1983. Mr. Fath has served on various boards of Jewish organizations, with positions including president of The Jewish Center, a synagogue located in Princeton, treasurer of the Center for Jewish Life at Princeton University, and Treasurer for United Jewish Federation of Princeton Mercer Bucks. Prior to arriving in Princeton, Mr. Fath graduated from Cornell University‚s school of chemistry in 1945 and worked in the chemical industry from 1946 to 1996. During his retirement, Mr. Fath displayed numerous paintings representing Jewish themes at a one man show at The Jewish Center in the fall of 2006. He is currently writing a novel about the demise of the Jewish community in Frankfurt between 1939 and 1942 which he is planning to publish this fall.
