Annual Fall Benefit to Feature Reception and Performance of YAMATO at Princeton’s McCarter Theatre Friday, November 6

October 06, 2009

(TRENTON)—The Crisis Ministry is pleased to announce its annual fall benefit Friday, November 6. A festive 6:30 p.m. reception in the lobby of McCarter Theatre will be followed by an 8 p.m. performance of dazzling theatricality by the Japanese drum ensemble YAMATO. Reservations for the Crisis Ministry benefit include tickets to the performance. Proceeds will directly support the hunger and homelessness prevention initiatives of the Crisis Minsitry.

Hospitality has guided the mission of the Crisis Ministry since it opened its doors to neighbors in need in1980. In response to the sustained 40% increase in demand during the past year, the Crisis Ministry has: added a weekly community farmer’s market that serves more than 300 households each week with fresh produce; partnered with civic organization Yes We Can! in monthly grocery food drives; increased service hours in its Princeton office at 61 Nassau Street (in Nassau Presbyterian Church); is expanding its downtown Trenton facility into an adjoining building. This will add 1,400 square feet of hospitality, reception, office, and education space. Clients who come to the Trenton facility will now wait for services in a sheltered and dignified environment. In addition, the expansion will create more room for the organization’s fresh produce inventory.

A non-profit, 501(c)3 program, the Crisis Ministry partners with the community to achieve stability for neighbors in need. Founded in 1980 by Princeton’s Nassau Presbyterian Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, the organization is responding to a dramatic and sustained increase in need for services brought about by the recession, and welcomes some 1,400 individuals and families each month who seek food and/or emergency assistance for rent and security deposits, utilities, or medicine. The Crisis Ministry provides welfare-to-work retail training and, with partner Capital Health System, quarterly health screenings hosted by First Presbyterian Church of Trenton.
