NAMI Mercer Walk 2013 - 850 Supporters Strong!

AND they “Stomped out stigma” on May 18th with more than 850 supporters who participated in the 6th Annual NAMI Mercer Walk on the campus of Educational Testing Service (ETS) in Princeton. NAMI Mercer, an affiliate of the National Alliance on Mental Illness, will sponsor the event with the dual goals of fighting stigma and raising money to support its free programs for individuals and families affected by mental illness.  This spring walk-a-thon is NAMI Mercer’s largest community outreach activity and the organization’s greatest fundraiser. Now the Walk in its 6th year, the event has brought in more than $600,000 in individual and corporate donations. Bristol Myers-Squibb, Janssen, Otsuka, Perform Care, NAMI NJ, Alexander Road Associates, ROMA Bank, SANDOZ, UBS, Carrier Clinic, COMCAST, Pride Industries, Princeton House Behavioral Health Care and many others were key event sponsors support the Walk. 

A list of distinguished Honorary Chairs and New Jersey leaders was complemented with Walk day participation by Mercer County Executive Brian Hughes, Mercer County Social Services Director Frank Cirillo, Ewing Mayor Bert Steinmann, Lawrence Mayor Jim Kownacki, Princeton Mayor Liz Lempert, and West Windsor Mayor Shing-Fu Hsueh.  Walk day participants clearly saw local leadership raising their voice around much needed attention for mental health awareness in this month of May that is recognized as Mental Health Awareness Month.

 

The NAMI Mercer Walk featured a vibrant wellness fair, where local vendors provided on-site health and wellness information and services to walk participants. Picnic lunch and live music (provided by The Riverside Bluegrass Band) welcomed the attendees as they returned from the 5k Walk.
