Crisis Ministry receives Grant From Church & Dwight Employee Giving Fund

(TRENTON)—The Employee Giving Fund of Church and Dwight recently awarded a grant of $10,000 to the Crisis Ministry of Princeton and Trenton. The grant will directly assist families and individuals who are homeless or who face eviction or foreclosure through the organization’s Homelessness Prevention Program.

“As the economy drives more people than ever to seek relief through our programs, we are grateful for the leadership shown by the employees of Church and Dwight,” said Crisis Ministry’s Executive Director Jarrett Kerbel.

The Church & Dwight Employee Giving Fund, Inc. (“EGF”), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization which was established in 2005 to support charitable organizations primarily in New Jersey and Eastern Pennsylvania, the region where the corporate headquarters is located and where many employees reside. The EGF is a workplace giving program supported by employees’ contributions that are matched dollar for dollar by Church & Dwight Co., Inc. The EGF provides employees with the means to financially assist low-income people and to actively support and participate in the initiatives of not-for-profit organizations with similar goals. “The Crisis Ministry fills a tremendous need in the community, and we are thrilled to be able to support the wonderful work being done here” said Church & Dwight Co. employee Angie Olsen.

The Homelessness Prevention Program provides Mercer County families emergency rent/mortgage assistance, security deposit assistance, utilities back payments, and, through a new partnership with Isles Inc., mortgage assistance. The program, which has also benefited from increased funding and a more streamlined structure from the Mercer County Board of Social Services, now provides up to $1500 per family. During the assistance process, staff members provide case management and comprehensive information as well as referrals to other public and private sources of assistance.

A non-profit, 501(c)3 program, the Crisis Ministry partners with the community to achieve stability for neighbors in need. Founded in 1980 by Princeton’s Nassau Presbyterian Church and Trinity Episcopal Church, the organization is responding to a dramatic and sustained increase in need for services brought about by the recession, and welcomes some 1,400 individuals and families each month who seek fresh produce healthful shelf-stable foods as well as the emergency housing assistance. The Crisis Ministry provides welfare-to-workforce retail training and, with partner Capital Health System, quarterly health screenings hosted by First Presbyterian Church of Trenton. The organization recently completed an expansion of its headquarters in order to improve its client hospitality clients.
