British
folk singer David Jones returns to Princeton at 8:15 p.m. Friday, May 16 to
present an evening of his music. His performance, which is to be held at Christ
Congregation Church, 50 Walnut Lane, is the final event in this season's concert
series sponsored by the Princeton Folk Music Society.
David has an enormous repertoire of folksong from both sides of the Atlantic. He has performed throughout his native Britain and North America at festivals, clubs, and colleges, singing songs from the great days of sail, Music Hall favorites, traditional ballads, and the works of contemporary writers. David sings a capella or with guitar, and also plays fiddle, concertina, and tin whistle. He often involves his audiences in refrains and choruses ranging from boisterous to sentimental.
David has performed at major folk festivals in the U.S. and U.K., as well as in concerts, folk clubs, colleges, schools, and libraries. He has appeared on television and radio and starred in many theatrical productions.
He has recorded a dozen albums, solo and with other performers including Heather Wood, Starboard List, and the late Tom Gibney. Emily Friedman wrote In Come for to Sing that David's singing of "My Old Dutch" was possibly the recording of the decade. Sing Out! Magazine states that his "lively songs and outrageous humor left a joyous audience shouting for more ... a singer of depth and sensitivity".
Admission to David's performance is $15 for the general public, $10 for members of the Folk Music Society and affiliated organizations, $3 for children age 11 and under, and special rates for students. There are no advance sales; ample free parking is available. For more information about these and other Folk Music Society events, please call 609-7990944.

The Princeton Folk Music Society has encouraged the growth of folk music in central New Jersey for 40 years. We sponsor a monthly house sing for members on the first Friday of each month and a monthly concert by visiting folk singers and songwriters, usually on the third Friday of each month. Non-members are welcome to attend our monthly concerts - we hope to see you at the next one! Read a Welcome Message from our President. |

See who has performed for the PFMS since 1971.
Unless otherwise noted, the monthly concerts are held at Christ Congregation Church, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton, NJ (at Houghton Road & across from Princeton High School - see map).
From Route 1: Take Washington Road (Rte 571) into Princeton and cross Nassau Street. When road ends in a "T" turn right onto Wiggins. At fourth left, turn left onto Walnut Lane (to the right the street name is Chestnut). Proceed about two blocks to the church on the left, and turn left onto Houghton for parking, which is plentiful.
Unless otherwise noted, concerts start at 8:15pm. Coffee and desserts are served during the intermission. These concerts are a wonderful way to hear your favorite folk musicians or to hear new singer-songwriters and singers of traditional music, all in an intimate, friendly setting. In addition, house concerts are occasionally held in members' homes.
Concert admission for most shows is $15 for non-members, $10 for members and $3 for children under twelve years of age. Tickets for most shows are not available in advance - they are sold at the door starting about 40 minutes before the performance.
Besides a reduction in concert admission fees, members also receive a monthly newsletter which highlights the performers and area events. Another benefit of membership is that you can attend the monthly sings. You can become a member at any concert or send your membership fees to the address below.
