Arts Council of Princeton presents Winter 2012 Classes for Adults, Teens, and Children Featuring 20 New Instructors and over 70 New Classes!
There is no better way to experience the dynamic and distinctive Paul Robeson Center for the Arts than to enroll in an Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) class or workshop. Students of all ages and skill levels who are interested in developing their artistic ability, as well as their creative thinking skills, will find a wide selection of courses to choose from with offerings in Ceramics and Sculpture, Digital Arts and Darkroom Photography, Painting, Drawing, Writing, Dance, and Theater Arts, to name a few.
The Arts Council is pleased to welcome 20 new instructors in the winter semester, in addition to the esteemed professional faculty members returning to the ACP. The winter semester will also feature over 70 new classes! The ACP’s wide selection of art classes offers something for everyone and serves as the perfect gift for the holiday season. Classes taught by world class professional instructors are general to all levels (teaching beginner, intermediate, and advanced) and consist of small groups of students in a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Classes begin on January 9, 2012 and take place in the Paul Robeson Center which includes a renovated Ceramics Studio with ten throwing wheels and three kilns, digital arts studio, dance studio, darkroom, and studio art space. Class registration is open to the general public. Students do not have to be Princeton residents to take classes and membership is not required to enroll, but ACP members receive benefits such as discounts on registration fees. Full information about membership is available on the ACP website. New this winter, we will offer a variety of short-term and long-term workshops and limited Sunday programs. Additional classes, workshops and programs will be added to our website, so please check regularly for updates. The ACP will also continue Fun Fridays on January 13 and February 17 during the Princeton Regional School Break. Highlights of select winter classes:
ADULTS
Double Portrait in Oils
This new class will feature a single pose with two subjects and will use both live models (clothed) and photo references of the models.
Iconography: Mosaic Tile and Tempera Paint
Students will learn about the history of the media and subject matter, as well as specific techniques required for individual projects.
Gouache
Students will explore gouache techniques combined with other media such as pastels and colored pencils.
Basic Artistic Anatomy of the Human Head & Body
These classes will focus on understanding basic measurements and representations of the head and the body.
TEENS/TWEENS
Alternative Media
Students will explore the boundaries between painting and sculpture when non-traditional materials are incorporated in collage and assemblage form.
Going Viral: The Art of Making it Move
The focus of this class is to learn how to animate a joke or short story using Adobe products such as Photoshop, After Effects, and Flash.
Industrial Art
This new class will introduce students to the basics of drafting as it applies to industrial arts.
Fiber Art & Fashion Accessories
Students will work with an assortment of fabric, dried plant materials, and eco-friendly elements to create mixed media sculptures, wall tapestries, and wearable accessories.
CHILDREN
Storybook Writing
Participants will produce a self-written and illustrated book by the end of the session.
Art & Society
Students will explore the presence of art in everyday life and beyond in this new class!
Shake it Up!
The dance floor becomes the canvas as students use their bodies and props to create shapes and textures inspired by what they hear and feel!
