Screening and Discussion of "Race to Nowhere" Novemeber 15, 2010
The Riverside School PTO, 101: and the Princeton Education Foundation are sponsoring a Princeton community screening and discussion of the film Race to Nowhere on Monday, Nov. 15th at 7:30 in the PHS Performing Arts Center. Watch the trailer here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uem73imvn9Y The screening is intended to facilitate discussion of the achievement culture prevalent in our nation’s schools. This film explores the high-stakes, high-pressure culture that has invaded schools and our family's lives, creating unhealthy, disengaged, unprepared and stressed-out youth. Featuring the stories of young people s who have been pushed to the brink, educators who are burned out and worried that students aren't developing the skills they need, and parents who are trying to do what's best for their kids, Race to Nowhere is a call to action to challenge current assumptions on how to best prepare the youth of America to become healthy, bright, contributing and leading citizens. Nic Voge, a Riverside School parent and associate director of Princeton University’s McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning will facilitate our post-film discussion.
