Princeton Family YMCA Seeks Nominations to Recognize Mentors

Princeton, June 1, 2010 –   The Princeton Family YMCA is requesting nominations from the public for its 2010 Centennial Awards program and reception.  Named in honor of the YMCA’s 100th year milestone celebrated in 2008, the annual Centennial Awards event honors four to five distinguished individuals in a profession, area of expertise or field of achievement.  This year, the award will be presented to individuals who have made a difference in the region by demonstrating outstanding commitment and leadership to mentoring children, teenagers, young adults and/or young professionals, and who consistently demonstrate the YMCA’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in their daily lives.  A committee of volunteers, chaired by Eleanor V. Horne of Lawrence, will make the final selection.

“Heart and Soul: Mentors who shape, inspire, and develop our next generation” is scheduled for Tuesday, October 19, 2010, 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm at the Greenacres Country Club in Lawrenceville.  A unique feature of this fun, after-work awards reception is that the program is conducted entirely by young people, ages 10 - 18, who are participants in YMCA programs.  They serve as the evening’s moderators and present the awards. Before the event, each honoree is interviewed by his or her young presenter, and shares his or her personal story.

Nominations are due June 22, 2010.  A simple one-page nominations form can be downloaded from the YMCA’s website at www.princetonymca.org or individuals may call Denise Soto at 609-497-9622 x209 to request a form.

Proceeds raised from this annual event help the YMCA deliver its mission-driven programs and activities to more than 5,000 residents in the region and help ensure that critical YMCA programs and activities are accessible to anyone, regardless of financial circumstances.
