NAMI Mercer Offers Free Family Education Program on Mental Illness

– On February 4, NAMI Mercer will begin its fall semester of “Family-to-Family,” a free, 12-week education course for adult family members of persons living with mental illness. NAMI Mercer has been offering this program twice a year since 1995.

The course covers the biology of brain disorders; diagnostic criteria for the major mental illnesses, including schizophrenia, major depression, bipolar disorder (manic-depression), panic disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, and borderline personality disorder.

The curriculum was designed by NAMI mental-health professionals and is taught by trained volunteers who have experienced mental illness in their own families.

Classes will be held on twelve consecutive Thursday nights from 7:00 pm to 9:30 pm at the NAMI Center of Mercer County, 3371 Brunswick Pike, Suite 124 (adjacent to Mercer Mall) in Lawrenceville. A second class will be offered on Tuesday nights starting March 2 in Trenton.  Although the education series is free, registration is required. For more information or to register, call 609-799-8994 or email home@namimercer.org.
