Arts Council of Princeton Invites Community to Annual Hometown Halloween Parade, Spooky Saturday and Day of the Dead Festival

Arts Council of Princeton Invites Community to
Annual Hometown Halloween Parade, Spooky Saturday and Day of the Dead Festival

The Arts Council of Princeton will host its annual Hometown Halloween Parade on Thursday, October 29, 2009 at 5 pm.  Ghosts, goblins, and all things spooky are invited to gather this year at the Albert E. Hinds Plaza, the courtyard adjacent to the Princeton Public Library.
The parade will leave the plaza at 5:15 p.m., led by the Princeton University Band.   This year’s parade route starts at Hinds Plaza, crosses Witherspoon Street and travels down Hulfish Street and up Palmer Square West to the green, where treats and pumpkin decorating will await all creatures, courtesy of the Nassau Inn, as well as a free performance by Alex and the Kaliedoscope Band.  Princeton Borough Police and Mercer Engine Co. #3 will also assist in the event.  The Halloween Parade is free.  People of all ages are encouraged to attend and get into the Halloween spirit by wearing a costume. Support for this annual community event is provided by Target, Palmer Square Management, the Nassau Inn, and the J. Seward Johnson, Sr. 1963 Charitable Trust.

The Arts Council of Princeton and the Princeton University Art Museum collaborate once again on the Spooky Saturday Gargoyle and Ghost Tour on October 31, from 2 to 4 pm.  Meet at the Princeton University Art Museum and muster the courage for a “spooky” tour of the university’s gargoyles, complete with a workbook of frightening facts and images.  Then walk to the Murray Dodge building for a clay workshop led by a professional Arts Council artist and make your own horrifying beasts.
All ages are welcome.  Children aged seven and under must be accompanied by an adult.  Space is limited and pre-registration is required.  Each adult accompanied by a child is free.  Pre-register online at www.artscouncilofprinceton.org or by phone at (609) 924-8777.  Admission is $7 for the general public, or $6 for Friends of the Princeton University Art Museum and Arts Council of Princeton members.
Round out the weekend by celebrating El Día de los Muertos, “the Day of the Dead”, at the Arts Council’s Paul Robeson Center on Sunday, November 1, from 3 to 5 pm.  A traditional Mexican holiday, El Día de los Muertos commemorates the lives of friends and relatives who have passed with altars, music, food, and family remembrances.  Join the Arts Council for this free seasonal event filled with music, hands-on art workshops and lots of fun! The Paul Robeson Center for the Arts is located in downtown Princeton at 102 Witherspoon Street, across from the Princeton Public Library. Support for this annual community event is provided by Target and the J. Seward Johnson, Sr. 1963 Charitable Trust.
