Stuart Students Receive Princeton University MLK Awards
PRINCETON, NJ, January 19, 2011 – Six students from Stuart Country Day School of the Sacred Heart received awards at Princeton University’s eighth annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Celebration on Monday.
In conjunction with the Celebration, the University holds literary and visual arts contests for students. This year students were asked to write about, or create a work of art on the environmental impact of Hurricane Katrina or the Deepwater Horizon (BP) oil spill in the Gulf Coast region. Contestants were asked to consider environmental issues and Dr. King’s vision for equality and his concern for the poor and oppressed in their work. The contest winners were recognized at an event in Richardson Hall on January 17.
“We are so very proud of the hard work and effort our Stuart students put into their projects and pleased their work has been recognized by the University’s Martin Luther King Celebration Committee,” said Dr. Patty Fagin, Head of School at Stuart. “The legacy of Dr. King truly resonates with our Sacred Heart commitment to educate our girls to a strong sense of community and a lifetime dedication to learning and service.”
