Education Documentary “Race to Nowhere” Premiers in Princeton September 30, 2010
PRINCETON LEARNING COOPERATIVE PRESENTS “RACE TO NOWHERE”
On Thursday, September 30th, the Princeton Learning Cooperative will sponsor a showing of the documentary “Race to Nowhere” at the Paul Robeson Center for the Arts, 102 Witherspoon Street, Princeton, from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Tickets $10 online or $15 at the door. Proceeds to benefit The Princeton Learning Cooperative, www.princetonlearningcooperative.org.
This critically acclaimed film is the work of a filmmaking team led by Vicki Abeles, a mother-turned-filmmaker who focuses her lens on the “culture of hollow achievement” that she sees as pervasive in America’s schools. The George Lucas Foundation has compared “Race to Nowhere” to “An Inconvenient Truth,” and the film is sparking a grassroots movement of mothers and others opposed to the stressful, over-scheduled paradigm they see in many American schools.
Princeton Learning Cooperative is a new, independent school for teenagers, located in the Robeson Center. It is run by its founder, Paul Scutt, formerly a teacher at the Solebury School and at the United Nations School. Under his direction, PLC offers a variety of classes and options for students and families seeking a highly individualized, non-traditional approach to secondary education.
