MYSTERY ICE SCULPTURE APPEARS OVER WEEKEND
Frigid temperatures may have kept most people indoors as much as possible lately but local artist and businessman le Corbeau has embraced it. The extended low temps have allowed him to build an ice sculpture now installed in front of the Chocolate Factory on Railroad Place. Over the last few weeks he engineered a system of troughs into which he formed solid ice blocks weighing about 30 pounds each. The resulting beams were then stacked to almost 8’ high, like so many oversized Lincoln Logs.
le Corbeau’s art works are usually made of metal – his Firedance Studio is located across the street from the Chocolate Factory – but he has been keen on making an ice sculpture for some time.
“My first success with ice, this was pretty exciting for me!” he said to a friend this past week.
The artist relied on nature to make the ice rather than a temperature controlled indoor facility. The sculpture was placed across the street from Firedance Studio so that the amount of sun on it was minimized, offering some longevity to an otherwise temporary sculpture.
