Arts Council of Princeton Presents Spring 2012 Classes & Workshops for Adults, Teens, and Children

There is no better way to experience the dynamic and distinctive Paul Robeson Center for the Arts than to enroll in an Arts Council of Princeton (ACP) class or workshop. Students of all ages and skill levels who are interested in developing their artistic ability, as well as their creative thinking skills, will find a wide selection of courses from which to choose with offerings in Ceramics and Sculpture, Digital Arts and Darkroom Photography, Painting, Drawing, Writing, Dance, and Theater Arts, to name a few. 

 

New classes for Adults offered this spring include Painting Private Paradises, Chinese Brush Painting, The Power of Color, Monotype Printmaking, Memoir Writing for Older Adults, and Writing a Novel.  Teens can enroll in many Adult classes, but they can also choose from among these new programs specifically created for them: Portfolio Prep, Pop Art, Ensemble Scene Study, Photojournalism, and Digital Magic with Photoshop.  Children (and parents) will be tempted by many new classes including Art Around the World, Meet the Masters, Diorama Project, and Impressionism in Mixed Media. The ACP also offers a variety ofWorkshops such as Figure Drawing in Charcoal, Portrait Painting, Japanese Handmade Paper, Felted Bags and Scarves, and Byzantine Weave Bracelets (in time for Mothers Day). Another special feature for Mothers Day is a Felted Flower workshop for ages 10 and up!  In a new collaboration with Morven Museum and Garden, the ACP will offer Painting Morven’s Gardens, Illustrating Morven, Poetry Meets History, and a 1-day Paint Out event on June 9th New programs will be added to our website, so please check regularly for updates.

 

Classes begin on April 9, 2012. Full descriptions of courses are on the ACP’s website at www.artscouncilofprinceton.org. Students may register for classes online, in person, or by phone. Class registration is open to the general public. Students do not have to be Princeton residents to

take classes and membership is not required to enroll, but ACP members receive benefits such as discounts on registration fees. Full information about membership is available on the ACP website. The ACP’s wide selection of art classes offers something for everyone and is a great way to kick off the spring season.   

 

The Arts Council is pleased to welcome new instructors in the spring semester, in addition to the esteemed professional faculty members returning to the ACP.

 

New and returning instructors include:

 

Patrick Arnheim, graduated from Princeton High School and went on to study theatre at The University of Mississippi, earning a Theatre Arts Merit Scholarship. He later graduated from the Circle in the Square Theatre School on Broadway. Patrick has been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1999. He has appeared in over 20 national commercials and was cast as a series regular in an MTV series. Most recently, Patrick co-starred on television in NBC’s popular weekly show 'Law and Order: Criminal Intent'. Patrick has also appeared in various off- and off-off Broadway productions, most recently starring in 'Upon My Word' at The Players Club in Manhattan.  Join Patrick and fellow budding thespians in his Ensemble Scene Study Class which explores the exciting world of theater.

Katya Held’s artwork is displayed worldwide in galleries and exhibition halls, including Newman Galleries in Philadelphia, Artworks at Philadelphia Museum of Art, The National Arts Club in New York, Baron Stieglitz Museum in Saint Petersburg Russia, The League of Artists of Russia and many others. During the last decade she had over 50 juried group and solo shows in Europe and the United States. The artist has many pieces in corporate and private collections throughout the world. Today Katya maintains studios in Philadelphia, PA and St. Petersburg, Russia. Katya offers several workshops including Portrait Painting Workshop, Figure Drawing in Charcoal and Still Life & Figure: Color Study.       

Christine Lafuente is a widely exhibited Painter and Pratt Institute Instructor. She received a Bachelors of Art in English fromBryn Mawr College (1991), a Certificate in Painting from the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts in Philadelphia (1995) and a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting from Brooklyn College (2004). Christine offers an intensive 4-week class, Color Harmony in Tonal Painting, Part I and Part II, for painters of all levels a full introduction to oil painting materials and techniques, including color palette range and control, as well as drawing concepts as relevant to painting from observation.

 

The Arts Council of Princeton (ACP), founded in 1967, is a non-profit organization with a mission of Building Community through the Arts.
