If you are new to the arts center or interested in trying out something new, take a class before the winter session starts for only $10 each during the trial week. Trial class dates are posted on

www.westwindsorarts.org

. All of our classes are taught by teaching artists, professional artists who are passionate about teaching in the arts.

The full slate of ‘Cabin Fever’ winter classes begins January 17 and extends through April 8.  New offerings feature Science Toys, Kamishibai Paper Theater, Cartooning & Illustration, Figure Drawing, Watercolors, Expressive Movement, Family Yoga, Stuff in Space, Art Around the World, Watercolor for Children, Poetry for Children and Beginning Acting.

We are excited to build upon our successful classes in a variety of art forms by offering some new and exciting options.  Among them, we have Science Toys that will explore the connection between art and science for young children, provided by Michal Melamede and Dan Rotundo of ScienceSeeds.  We are also bringing in Tara McGowan, a well-known expert in Kamishibai Japanese Paper Theater, who will be teaching about this important precursor to manga and anime, as children design their own characters and then create stories for their characters.  Jeehee Pak is offering several new classes for us, including Cartooning & Illustration, Figure Drawing, and Watercolors.  Gaby Rosenblum, from Dance Corner, will be offering a class in Expressive Movement which will combine an exploration of ballet, jazz, and contemporary/modern dance for children who may be interested in trying dance, but aren’t sure which style they’d like best.  Plus, we’re welcoming Lorning Nagle, who will be offering yoga for families and children on Wednesdays after school.

We will also be welcoming back a few teaching artists who have taught for us in the past.  Kevan Rupp Lunney, a well-known fiber artist, will return to teach a class called Stuff in Space, focused on teaching simple composition tools that are critical to success in the arts and design.  She’s currently writing a book about her innovative methods of teaching these concepts – which are usually reserved for the college classroom – to children and inexperienced art students.  Sue Mitrano, who taught environmental art for our summer camp, will return for Art Around the World and Water, Water Everywhere, a watercolor class for children.  We’re also welcoming back Helene Angley, who will be teaching a Stand-up Comedy class for adults.

Some of our existing artists will also be offering new classes.  Well-known poet, Anna Evans, who has developed a devout following in her adult class, will be offering a poetry class for children on Thursday evenings.  Peter Bisgaier, who has taught beginning acting, will offer The Play’s the Thing, where students use acting exercises to create their own play, which they’ll then rehearse and perform for an invited audience.

At the West Windsor Arts Center, we know that there are many ways to explore your creativity and develop innovative thinking.  Through our wide range of class offerings, we’re sure that everyone can find something to spark their interest.
