A Colorful International Day Planned for April 2nd at YWCA Princeton
The public is invited to attend the 2011 YWCA ESL International Day at the on April 2nd. The event will be held 3:00-6:00 and is free.
The event promises to be both colorful and tasteful. There will be foods and performances along with activities representing many ethnicities and cultures from around the world. Activities include: henna tattoos, a local youth Mexican band in costumes playing an array of music, contra dancing, authentic ethnic foods, a karate demonstration, Bollywood dancing, a history of Chinese medicine, samples of Turkish coffee, craft making, ethnic garments and dress, information on the citizenship process, and YWCA Princeton’s upcoming ESL class offerings which start on April 25.
“It is a wonderful opportunity for people to experience other cultures and explore their heritage,” said Paul Rossi, Director of YWCA’s English as a Second Language Program. “The Mercer County community and our ESL program are some of the most diverse on the east coast. Our ESL students speak 27 different languages and represent 36 different countries.”
It is a day for all generations and ethnicities. There will be a table for children to plot their heritage on a world map and work on a family tree. And, children can learn simple, key phrases from other languages.
