Keynote speaker for the day will be Mr. Darryl Walls, Founder/CEO of MINDS (Mental Intensity Naturally Determines Success) and a Certified Situational Leadership® Program Trainer based in East Orange, NJ.  Lunch speaker will be Mr. LaVar Young, Director of the Newark Comprehensive Center for Fathers (NCCF) in Newark, NJ.  Other speakers and panelists are expected to be announced shortly.  UIH Family Partners’ Executive Director, Ms. Karen Andrade-Mims, anticipates an “inspiring and empowering day,” and notes that the agency is “proud and pleased to be able to play a part in advancing the conversation around responsible fatherhood, particularly at a time in which one in three children is growing up apart from his or her father.”

“Dad Matters:  Best Practices in Fatherhood Programming” is being made possible through a National Responsible Fatherhood Capacity Building Initiative (NRFCBI) grant that was awarded to UIH Family Partners by the National Fatherhood Initiative (NFI).  Germantown, MD-based, NFI, the premier fatherhood renewal organization in the country, designed the NRFCBI through a partnership with the US Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Family Assistance.  UIH Family Partners was one of only 25 organizations nationwide (from a field of more than 600) to be awarded NRFCBI funding for 2010 through a competitive process.
