TCNJ Hosts 35th Annual Trenton Computer Festival, April 23 - 25

EWING, NJ ... The world's original computer show, the Trenton
Computer Festival (TCF), will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2010!
Come celebrate with your fellow computer, electronics, and ham radio
enthusiasts Saturday, April 24 and Sunday, April 25 at The College of
New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing. The TCF will be kicked off by the
Information Technology Professional Conference on Friday, April 23,
from 9 am to 5 pm.


A full schedule of informative panel sessions, tutorials, demos, and
other computer-related educational events is planned from 10 am  5
pm on Saturday and 10 am  4 pm on Sunday. The popular computer
and electronics sales center and flea market (rain or shine!) will also
be offered that weekend as well as the New Jersey State Conference
for ARRL, the national association for amateur radio, on Sunday. The
opportunity to take amateur radio license exams will be offered as part
of the conference. The primary venues for TCF include TCNJs Brower
Student Center, Social Science Building, and Armstrong Hall.


This years festival theme is Open Software, with open software
freedom activist Richard Stallman as the keynote speaker on Saturday
at 2:35 pm. Mr. Stallman, who is considered to be the originator of
the free software movement, was a major contributor to the GNU
operating system, which is the basis for the Linux OS. The
applications he developed for GNU include Emacs, a flexible and
powerful text editor; the GCC compiler; the gdb debugger; and the
gmake build automator.


Two-day admission tickets are available for $12 in advance and $15 at
the gate. Sunday-only admission is $10.00, also at the gate. Advance
tickets may be purchased from www.tcf-nj.org by Sunday, April 18.

TCF was started in 1976 by Sol Libes, founder of the Amateur
Computer Group of New Jersey, and Dr. Allen Katz, professor of
Electrical/Computer Engineering at TCNJ. A nonprofit educational
corporation, TCF is operated by volunteers from TCNJ, the Amateur
Computer Group of New Jersey (ACGNJ), the New York Amateur
Computer Club (NYACC), the Mount Airy VHF Radio Club, the Delaware
Valley Radio Association (DVRA), the Institute of Electrical and
Electronics Engineers, Inc. (IEEE) Region 1 and its Princeton Central
Jersey section, and the Princeton Joint Association for Computing
Machinery (ACM)/IEEE Computer Society Chapter. The festival
provides funds for TCNJ's School of Engineering Scholarship Program.
