OASIS (Organizing Action on Sustainability In Schools), a non-profit consortium of 17 Princeton area independent and public schools, is hosting a workshop for Trustees, School Board Members, School Heads, and Superintendents on the topic of sustainability in schools. The workshop will address the questions of why sustainability is important in schools and what a Trustee or School Board Member’s role might be. The speakers are Jon McBride, former Trustee of the Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC and Mark Biedron, Co-Founder of the Willow School in Gladstone, NJ. Both of these schools have LEEDS certified platinum buildings, the highest certification given by the US Green Building Council, and curricular programs that have embedded sustainability into their educational program.
“It’s important that the concepts of sustainability are understood by all constituents at schools, especially those with decision-making power. After all, children are our biggest carbon footprint, and their future decisions both personal and professional will determine what happens to our planet,” says Liz Cutler, OASIS Director.
Trustees and School Board Members from Princeton Day School, Princeton Regional Schools, Stuart School, Chapin, Princeton Friends School, Princeton Academy, Lawrenceville School, Lawrence Township Schools, Cranbury Township School, Solebury School, and Christina Seix Academy have already registered to attend.
Trustees and School Board Members from all NJ and close PA schools are invited at no charge. The workshop is March 4, 7:30-9:15pm hosted by Princeton Day School. For further information or to register, please contact Liz Cutler at Princeton Day School (609) 924-6700 ext. 1751.
