Princeton Day School Wins Two Awards in 2013 New Jersey Theater Awards

Best Ensemble Performance and Best Director
for Production of ANON(YMOUS)

Princeton – Princeton Day School’s fall 2012 theater production of Anon(ymous) by Naomi Iizuki was nominated for 8 awards in the statewide 2013 New Jersey Theater Awards at Montclair State University, and took home two awards: Best Ensemble Performance and Best Director for Artist-in-Residence Stan Cahill.

Approximately 50 private and public schools participated in this statewide competition which “honors excellence in high school drama in New Jersey.” Awards are given to non-musical plays produced by secondary schools. This was the first year Princeton Day School participated in the theater awards.

In addition to the two awards, PDS received nominations for Naiyah Ambros ’14 and Jay Mack ’16, for Lead Actor and Actress categories, and Jessica Toltzis ’15, for Best Supporting Actress. In addition, the school received nominations for Best Lighting Design, Best Sound Design, and Best Overall Production.

The award ceremony was held last Friday evening at Montclair State University. The cast and crew attended the Oscar-style ceremony, and both performed scenes from the play during the show and worked backstage with the technicians.

Private and public schools from across the state were present, including many highly lauded performing arts schools from the competitive New York City area. In announcing the news, Mr. Cahill remarked, “It was a great evening, and our cast and crew really put their best foot forward. These awards have put us firmly on the Performing Arts map in front of programs from all over New Jersey.”
