Summer Drinks

May 28, 2008

Back in the day, a summer cocktail consisted of a shot of vodka or gin,a slice of lime (maybe), and alot of ice. The purist still exists but now there are hundreds of summer concoctions that can be found at your favorite bar or local backyard barbeque. To simplify your choice we created the delicious POL Margarita - a new version of the classic margarita with the added twist of fresh orange juice (recipe below). So at your next party shake it up with some of the drink suggestions below and most importantly, drink responsibly!

POL MARGARITA

Serves 1

2 ounces high-quality tequila (Patron Silver or Don Julio)

Juice of 1 lime

3/4 ounce fresh orange juice

1/2 ounce Cointreau

1 lime cut into 6 wedges

Coarse salt

Pour the tequila, lime and orange juices, and Cointreau over ice into a cocktail shaker. Add all but one lime wedge and mash with spoon bruising the lime wedges to release their oil and fragrance. Cover and shake vigorously.

Rub the outside rim of a margarita glass with the reserved lime wedge and invert the glass onto a plate containing the salt. Strain the margarita into the glass and garnish with lime wedge.

Sunset Sangria

2tsp. finely shredded lime peel

1 cup fresh lime juice

3/4 cup sugar

1 bottle Pinot Noir or Syrah

1 nectarine pitted and sliced

1. In a 1-quart glass measuring cup combine lime peel, lime juice, and sugar; add water to equal 4 cups. Stir to dissolve sugar. Cover and refrigerate 2 hours or longer.

2. To serve, place ice in six-ounce glasses. Add 2/3 cup of the lime juice mixture to each glass. Pouring along side of glass, slowly a dd 1/2 cup wine. Thread nectarine slices on skewers and add to glasses.
