Princeton Surgical Associates grew out of an initial association between Dr. Ralph J. Belford and Dr. David B. Miller. Dr. Belford was the first university-trained surgeon in Central New Jersey, becoming a surgeon to the town of Princeton and to the university in 1937. Dr. Miller began his practice in Princeton in 1951 and, with the additions of Dr. James J. Chandler and Dr. William P. Burks, the association was formalized and initially incorporated as the Princeton Surgical Associates of Miller, Chandler, Burks, P.A. Goals were to provide continuous surgical coverage to the hospital and to improve patient care through the formal association of surgeons with different backgrounds, perspectives and specialties.

As the field of surgery became more specialized, the need for additional surgeons in the Princeton community grew. Dr. John J. White, Jr. left his New York City surgical practice to join PSA, followed by Dr. J. Thomas Davidson, Dr. Lucius D. Clay III, Dr. Kenneth A. Goldman, and Dr. Rachel P. Dultz. Dr. Steven P. Kahn, Dr. Lawrence J. Jordan and Dr. Henry Davison, all well-known surgeons in this community, joined Princeton Surgical Associates in 1999. Dr. Nisha Dhir joined the practice in 2004. She came to us from Mount Sinai @ Elmhurst Hospital Center where she was an assistant attending and director of the breast center. Our newest surgeon to the group, Dr. Sae Hahm, was the Chief resident here at the University Medical Center at Princeton and just finished a two year fellowship in vascular surgery. Our office is located in the Medical Arts Building adjacent to the hospital complex. The Medical Arts Building also houses the Surgical Center of The Medical Center at Princeton.

Dr. William P. Burks and Dr. John J. White, although retired from active practice, maintain an active interest in the Princeton community.

Dr. James J. Chandler, after a remarkable career in private practice, has accepted a position as professor of surgery at the Robert Wood Johnson School of Medicine in New Brunswick. He will continue to serve the community in that capacity and is available for consultation at his office in New Brunswick.
