Motor Vehicle Requirements
Individuals wishing to obtain a standard driver's license in the State of
New Jersey must be at least 17 years old and have passed both a written and
a behind-the-wheel test.
Upon relocating to New Jersey, new residents have up to 60 days to apply for
a license, or before a current license expires, whichever occurs first.
Motor vehicles belonging to
individuals moving into the state must be titled and registered within 60
days or before out-of-state registration expires.
Registered vehicles are each issued two license plates which must be clearly
displayed on both the front and the rear.
All New Jersey registered vehicles must undergo safety and emission
inspections and be covered under liability insurance.
