Spring Flower Fair at Rutgers Gardens May 6-8, 2011
Welcome to the 19th Annual Spring Flower Fair! A Garden Plant Sale that provides you with the opportunity to purchase unique or difficult to find plants that will enhance your garden with flower, form or food that are traditionally difficult to find. This year we have tried hard to not only increase the selection of those hard to find plants, but have tried to focus upon those plants that will provide solutions to difficult sites in your garden! Look at our Designer's Corner for more details. Your purchase also directly benefits the Rutgers Gardens Student Internship program, which provides hands-on educational experience for over 12 students this coming summer. Rutgers Gardens is entirely self-supporting and your support is greatly needed and appreciated!
This year you will notice several new additions to the event. First, there will be a plant sale highlights class on April 12, which will focus on the growing conditions and uses of a number of the plants that are offered. The class is free to our members, guests fee is $10.00. For more information on the class please contact Mary Ann Schrum or follow this link to register. This year also marks the first time that a presale will be available to members. We have found a few plants that are very difficult or typically very expensive to purchase and – as a benefit of being a Gardens Member – are offering them for sale to the members in advance of the spring sale. The plants will be available for pick-up at the Thursday evening Preview Reception. For those new to gardening, or for the experts that are simply looking for a plant choice to solve a difficult problem, we have added ‘Designers Corner’! It is a list of plants with some simple design solutions for those gardens that have design or plant challenges. Lastly, we will no longer request parking donations. However, with the increased costs associated with the Internship Program, we will be directly charging tax this season. In the past, the Gardens has simply assumed that cost, but we can no longer bare that cost for the future.
The Spring flower Fair is organized by the Rutgers Gardens staff along with helpf rom various plant experts and many dedicated volunteers. The sale is located at the Log Cabin and Alumni Pavilion in the Gardens. MasterCard and Visa along with checks and cash are accepted.
