Morven Museum & Garden Hosts Noted Lecturer and Writer Marta McDowell on April 1, 2010
Morven Museum & Garden, located at 55 Stockton Street, is sponsoring a garden lecture at 10 a.m. on Thursday, April 1 called “Designing Women: Coffin, Hutcheson and Shipman,” by noted garden lecturer and writer Marta McDowell. Her garden writing has appeared in Woman’s Day, Fine Gardening and The New York Times. In addition, she teaches landscape history and preservation at the New York Botanical Garden and Drew University, and holds gardening classes at Chautauqua Institute. In this lecture, McDowell will highlight the principles of design that Marion Cruger Coffin, Martha Brookes Hutcheson and Ellen Biddle Shipman employed as they transformed the wealth of the Industrial Revolution into beautiful landscapes for estates across the country – principles that fit gardens of any budget.
