Sixth grade students were inspired by the   repetition and bold patterns in African textiles.  Many of the animal images come from contemporary textile designs and the bronze relief of the ancient Benin culture.   Drawings were created using CrayolaŽ Over Writer markers.  The central animal image was scanned into the computer and then altered by the students.  The digital image was cut and strips and woven into the original drawing.

Weavings were stitched to a background color for students to stamp
with designs of Western Africa fabrics and bark cloth.  Weavings were
stitched to resemble strip cloth.
