Students study the Inca in social studies.  They have been learning about the Ice mummies and have been introduced to the textile designs of the Andean region in social studies.

Begin your study with any question that interests you. You do not need to go in any certain order. Click on the underlined words in the question or on the URL address to go to the sites.

2. Follow the Inca Trail--How did the places get their names?  You can also tour the Inca Trail from the interactive map. (Thanks to my students, we found this site takes you to more information about Hiram Bingham than the sites in question #4)
3. Visit some of the other locations in Peru from this site  How do the various cultures compare?  What similarities do you see in these pre-Columbian cultures? What differences?  Be sure to click on the small thumbnail images to see a larger view.
4. Find out about Hiram Bingham- explorer of the land of the Inca.  What inspired him to explore the land of the Inca? (link for this question was broken)

Find out about the Ice Mummies.  Why were these people sacrificed?  How did they stay so well preserved?

Inca Quipus Find out about this interesting form of communication. Knotted multicolor strings served as a device to send messages throughout their conquered territories.
