Students do this lesson in preparation for their own Egyptian parody art

1.
Visit the Art of Egypt -Learn about the history of Egypt  and enjoy the contemporary art by Richard Deuer.  Excellent educational site- lots to see. Look at Deuer's work (click on Time Warp Gallery).  Select one that you think is interesting.  Which work by Deuer did you select and why?  How does Deuer parody (poke fun at) the Egyptian art?  Compare his images to the ancient images (Click on Ancient Egypt Gallery).

Learn more about Hieroglyphics

Learn about Egyptian Mythology

2. Tour Egypt from this interactive map. Where did you decide to travel? What were some of things you saw on your "virtual trip"?
3. See Egypt then and now from photographs and the work of a contemporary artist. How has Egypt changed? What has stayed the same?

Timeline of Ancient Egypt--Egypt chronology.  How old are the pyramids?  Which Dynasties built the pyramids?

4.

While in Egypt, why not take a look at Art of Egypt in the Cairo Museum? Choose any exhibit to visit. The King Tut Room is always popular.  What did you find interesting in the Cairo Museum?

5. See this new educational site about Egypt from the Canadian Museum of Civilizations. Select a question you would like to learn more about and search this site for answers. Select any topic of interest from . Select a question you would like to learn more about and search this site for answers. Select any topic of interest from the menu.
6. PBS-Nova Online takes you on a tour of the pyramids.  Travel the passage ways.    Go on and explore!  What areas did you decide to explore?
7. Discover Ancient Egypt through this interactive site from the British Museum. Mummification is always of interest. Explore daily life. Learn more about gods and goddesses. So much to see on this site! What part did you choose? What new information did you learn? Take the challenge! Learn how to play this math strategy game of Senet (I played against myself - green won)
8. Discover the Tomb of Tutankhamen from National Geographic. The introduction is slow to load. Who discovered King Tut's Tomb? This was taken from a 1923 National Geographic article.
9. Take a safari through Egypt.  See the animals along the Nile.  Dive into the waters to explore the marine life. Enjoy Wild Egypt! Prepare yourself for a fantastic adventure as you go in search of Egypt's colorful wildlife.

Discover Animals and the God of Ancient Egypt.

See what else the site has to offer. There is even a section just for kids. See what your name looks like in hieroglyphics. Here is another translator (right click - copy and paste your translation into Word and print). Try this translator from the University of Pennsylvania Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology. Your hieroglyphics will appear in a cartouche. Remember to spell you name phonetically (the way is sounds). Did you get the same results each time? These are just a few of the translators on the Web.

10. Learn more about Egypt Civilization from University of Evansville.  Information about culture, writing and much more. Links to images in major museums
11. Ancient Egyptian Math Are you interested in math? Take a look at the numbering system of ancient Egypt. Write your age in Egyptian numbers. Write the year your were born.  You might also be interested in the Egyptian calendar. (Site no longer online)
12. World Art Treasures. Slide collection of art form Egypt. Click on the small images to see a larger view - then zoom in for a closer look. Try one of the puzzles - I tried the Sphinx (it's not as easy as it looks).
13. Are you planning a trip to Egypt? You will want to check the Egyptian State Information Site.  What kinds of information would be helpful in planning a trip?
For further exploration try the Cairo Museum of Antiquities - excellent images (3 pages of images).

Learn more about Egypt from any of these quality sites online.
