"I'm finished!
Now what do I
do?"
TRY A DRAWING DRAWER!
By Marty Reid
As we all know, children finish their art projects at
different times. I used
this idea for all grade levels and children responded well to this
idea. The element of
surprise was always intriguing to them.
Just watch out that they don't rush the curriculum assignment
to "get to the drawing drawer!"
Directions: Find
an empty drawer! Create and cut assignments into strips. Place them
inside the drawing drawer. When
a child finishes their work, give them the chance to go to the drawing
drawer and select an assignment (eyes closed, of course!)
Allow them to begin the assignment, write the directive on the
back of the artwork, and finish it at home for homework if they don't
finish in the time left in class.
You can also have them work out of their individual sketchbooks
too! They work best in a sketchbook if they make their very own
one.
