Museum - Web Quest
When I
first put my site online, I did detailed Web lessons for each unit. It was
frustrating then to come to that assignment the following year, only to
find the site URLs changed - the sites changed - or the sites removed
altogether. I then began doing a simple Web Quest using the resources on
my site. I would select some sources for the students to visit first -
then would let them choose what other sources they wanted to visit from
the links page. Often, I would just put the questions up on the
screen/white board and have them use their own paper. Below is a
"generic" Web Quest you can use (list resources for students to
use). This was more than enough to
fill a 40 to 50 minute class period. Web
Quests were always done in my class after students had already been
introduced to the artists or cultures via video (or other source).
Lesson
Title:
name_______________________________
section_________
Scenario:
You are the curator for a museum exhibit on (name of the artist or
culture). You will be designing a web page to introduce your exhibit.
Today you are collecting information to put on that page.
Resources:
1. Country
of origin and time period (birth and death of artist)
2. Brief
description of style of art - characteristics.
3. List
three new interesting facts you learned about this artist (or culture).
4. List
three works of art you would include in your exhibit (include title,
medium
used and date). Why did you select these works?
5. Select
one work to describe in detail. Use your art vocabulary (elements and
principles of design). What is the meaning of this
work? Why do we value this as
a work of art?
Grading
this assignment:
Students had
to answer a minimum of three questions to get 7 points or better. Even my
special ed students could answer three in the 41/42 minute period. Those
of you who want to take more than one class period will assess this
assignment differently. The most important thing was for students to
remain actively engaged in viewing and READING the sites. I often graded
these as the students were working.
