From Gina:..... "I gave them some black paper, some crayola metallic pencils, told them to trace a circle, and using only one colour, create something meaningful to themselves. First they had to trace their hand coming into the circle and then to imagine a light source somewhere behind it. I told them how to use the pencil (points for sharp lines, the side of the pencil for shading, drawing small ellipticals with more or less pressure from their shoulders to create depth of shading....). If they came to me to ask WHAT to draw, I turned them away, saying that it was up to them as it was a Personal Mandala. They actually got off on it so much they were saying it was like a meditation. As the other students saw them complete these wonderful artworks they actually tried harder to finish their own stuff to do the same."
