8TH (FREE
TIME ACTIVITY)
UNIT: DRAWING AND DESIGN
PROJECT:
WHAT IS INSIDE MY LOCKER?
Objectives:
students will
- Use imagination
- Develop measuring/estimation skills
- Develop ruler skills
- Represent self through symbols and images
Materials:
- 12x18
drawing paper
- black
permanent markers
- watercolor
markers
- colored
pencils
- pencil,
eraser, ruler
Procedures:
(No instruction
necessary—set up supplies and example along with student
instruction sheet. Students work on this when finished
with main project)
- Fold
12x18 paper vertically to make a long folded paper
6”x18”. Put fold on side that your locker opens.
- Draw
front of locker. You may use the template drawing
provided—OR go out in the hallway to draw outside
the art room door. You MAY NOT go to your own locker
in another hallway.
Remember to draw the vents, locker number and
combination lock. Don’t forget the hinges. Draw top
and bottom section. construction paper may be used for
front cover - I had orange paper for my students to
use.
- Open
fold and draw top and bottom section. Draw items in
your locker that will tell a story about who you are.
Select objects of importance to you. Option: Create a
fantasy “surreal” scene. You may also draw
books—coats—book bag (normal locker stuff). Try to
be creative and original.
- Outline
with fine point black marker.
- Color
with watercolor markers or colored pencils
Evaluation:
This
project is graded only on effort, participation and
consideration of others. While craftsmanship is
expected---you will not be evaluated on your drawing skill
level. You are expected to draw on your own without
guidance from the teacher. Were you quiet and on task so
others cold finish the main assignment?
Were you a “self-starter”? Did you show
initiative?
