Procedures:
1. View video on Picasso- fill out work sheet- discuss
2. Critique work of Picasso- select one image to write about- include
elements and principles of design vocabulary (chapter 2 in text).

3. Make realistic self-portrait drawing paying attention to details and
proportion - use mirrors
(use 12 x 18 newsprint - or white drawing paper)
4. Select one work of Picasso as inspiration for own self-portrait.
Draw cubist style portrait on 12x18 Newsprint paper - show multiple
views. Compare realistic and
cubist style drawing.
5. Transfer cubist style drawing to 12x18 construction paper to use as
base -use Seral transfer paper.
6. Continue composition (transfer sections of portrait to construction
paper, cut and glue) using a variety of materials: fabric, wallpaper,
texture papers, wrapping
paper, construction paper, etc. May use newsprint drawing as a pattern
shape for cutting. For this lesson, we added holding a newspaper
("Newspapers in Education") and showed what our emotions were
while reading.
7. Outline cut shapes with black permanent marker for contrast.
8. Add line: for value, pattern, simulated textures, decorative uses.
Use paint markers for accents and puffy paints if desired.
9. Make
frame - collage newspaper articles around the outside edge of poster board
(about 2 1/2" in all around). Use Word to make some additional head
lines. Print digital headlines - cut out and collage over newspaper frame.
Teacher use mat knife to cut opening. (Students who were behind matted
theirs with plain white or black
mats.)
10. Critique work - Answer short answer essays and fill out student
evaluation.
