Circles Galore!

Lesson Plan Submitted by Robin Folse
Elementary teacher of Florida Avenue Elementary in Slidell, LA.
Grades: Kindergarten

Materials:

  • Tempera paint
  • straws
  • Q-tips
  • pencil erasers
  • paper towel tubes
  • oranges (ANYTHING ROUND!!)
  • construction paper

Procedure:

I supply different objects that will make dots or circles when dipped in tempera paint. Straws, Q-tips, pencil erasers, paper towel tubes, oranges, ( ANYTHING ROUND!!) will work well with this activity. Now all that is needed are different colors of tempera paint and construction paper. I like to use different combinations like red, blue and yellow on white paper (encourage mixing two colors) and black and white paint on bright colored paper. Be sure to provide objects that vary in size.

Students may be encouraged to make patterns with their objects. Illustrations or paintings may be shown that exhibit pattern.
