Introduction:
We
are going to make a pattern using repeating horizontal and vertical
lines. This is called a plaid pattern. Your finished artwork will appear
to be a “weaving” in paint.
Process:
Class1:
(Demo each step)
1.
The learner will put their name on the back of the
paper.
2.
The learner will choose one of the complimentary
colors in front of them and dip into the paint with a wet brush.
3.
The learner will paint a straight horizontal line
across the paper.
4.
The learner will repeat step 2 and 3 trying to
evenly space the horizontal lines.

5.
The learner will choose one of the complimentary
colors in front of them and dip into the paint with a wet brush.
6.
The learner will paint a straight vertical line
down the paper.
7.
The learner will repeat step 5 and 6 trying to
evenly space the painted vertical lines.
Class
2: (demo each step)
1.
The learner using (markers and/or crayons) will
draw additional horizontal lines between the painted lines, choosing the
complimentary color of the already painted line. (Example: blue/orange,
purple/yellow, green/red).
2.
The learner will repeat the above process with the
vertical lines.
3.
The learner will make a paper pattern of a cat
using manila paper.
-The learner will cut a large oval for the body from a 12 x 18
paper.
-The learner will cut a circle for the head from a 6 x 6 paper.
-The learner will cut a leg from a 3 x 9 paper.
4.
The learner will trace the paper pattern pieces on
the back of their plaid paper as
demonstrated. The extra paper will be used for the ears and tail.
(Demonstrate on the board
possible shapes for ears and tails, different positions etc.) Do
not make tails too skinny or
ears too small.
5.
The learner will carefully draw a tail and ears in
the unused space.
6.
The learner will carefully cut out the pieces of
the cat .The learner will assemble the cat in front of them in different
positions without glue.
7.
The learner will choose a pose for the cat and glue
the cat together using their finest gluing skills.
8.
The learner may add a face, collar, and cat tags
etc. using scrap construction paper.
