Square Machine
example of art

Submitted by Ken Rohrer, elementary assistant principal at South View Elementary, Muncie, IN.

Mona Ages: 3 - 5

Materials: crayons, paper, and boxes or other square-shaped objects.

Procedure: What's a square? Squares are all over the place. Look at these square things. We know they're square because they have four even sides. We can even draw squares. Look at how I draw this square. Look what happens when I draw them different sizes. What happens when I stack them up? I'm going to make a machine!

My machine will be a robot. He will have a square head, square body, square arms and legs- everything on him will be squares! I will change colors too. Don't hold your crayons too tight or your lines will be shaky. My robot will help my mom around the house! Because my robot is tall, I am making my paper go up and down like a tall man.
