Heroes Triptych -Student Examples

Oops! ran out of shiny gold strips - back panel edges wrapped with
white masking tape (in effort to get it done quickly. This was a
"finish after school" one - long story - but glad I had parent
support). Shakespeare's clothing made from fabric, fabric trim, real
buttons and lace. Back on panel was the Globe theater (then - and now
reconstructions). Side panels had a time-line printed on parchment in
fancy font. Won a merit award in art show. Ribbon hinges -edges of ribbon
secured with gold painted cardboard strips.

Wood palette cut out with real brushes. Center panel had images that were
added in relief.. Ribbon hinges covered with cardboard strips (scanned in
decorative border - student manipulated colors of border). Back panel had
biography with some more images. Top back panel had reproduction (more
clear) image of da Vinci's Last Supper (you can see a portion of The Last
Supper on front panel)

This project used a number of images from a children's book on Marie
Curie. All of the students who did artists, scientists or explorers had
the benefit of my help. I got library books on their topic from the local
library and Bluffton library (they were on their own with school library).
The student added acrylic glazes to the portrait of Marie. Portrait and
images in center are in relief. Back panel had biography (I think) and
images of her family - framed with matching border that is on front side.
I think the text on inside was about her experiments.

This was a good example of "fudging it". This student found lots
of images in National Geographic that he could make fit in some way-- only
a few of his were digital images. He showed the struggle of African
Americans from slavery to today. Featuring Rosa Parks, Sojourner Truth,
Harriet Tubman, Coretta King - and of course Martin Luther King, Jr. - all
portraits were added in relief. Glazing was added to Martin Luther King.
The back of center panel was African Americans today (I don't recall who
his heroes were now on the back). Martin Luther King quotes on outside
panels. This was done by an African American student. It was such a joy to
see him work on this! No "coaching" from me at all. I gave him a
bronze medal award at the awards assembly (I had him all three years for
art) - primarily because of this project. He was so surprised! For his
Renaissance "parody" painting, he used faces of his mother and
himself - another reason for the award.
