Mercer County
Plainsboro receives bike route grant
Tuesday, November 11, 2003
PLAINSBORO - Bicycles may someday be the preferred mode of
transportation in this town if the township committee has anything to say
about it. The township received a $270,000 grant from the state Department of
Transportation for the construction of a bike route along Cranbury Neck
Road. The grant will allow the township to widen the road and complete
necessary drainage work. The bikeway will run from George Davison Road to the Millstone River
bridge, connecting to the existing bike route on Nostrand Road. "This adds another piece to the puzzle," said transportation planner
Jack Molenaar in a prepared statement. "When we put in the bike path from
Cranbury Neck Road to The Crossings on Grovers Mill Road, we will then
have the capability of biking safely from Nostrand and Cranbury Neck all
the way to the schools." The township has plans for future bicycle paths, including one from the
intersection of Cranbury Neck Road and Grovers Mill Road along the
Millstone River and a path that will connect Grovers Mill Road to the new
village center. (
