Second Sign – from Twelve Signs of Inner Peace
(Author Unknown)

#2 “An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.”

I can agree with this one MOST of the time.  I had a bit of a problem enjoying the moment when I got kicked in the nose (by accident).   I assuredly did not enjoy that moment at all.  Wait - I guess that means that at that moment, I did not have inner peace .  True enough!  Point well taken.

Still, there are times when I need to stop and remind myself how precious the moment, this one right now, is.   Of course, I have good reason:  I enjoy many precious moments at Better Beginnings and at home, too, where my daughter has established her own shelter for cats (and is pet sitting to support them).   Either way, I agree with Joseph H. Mazzella who, in Expecting Nothing in Return, states,

“One of the best lessons that I have ever

learned is to never look down on someone younger or smaller than you. They may just be your best teachers in this life. I know that I have learned more about living from babies, small children, puppies, and kittens than I would have believed possible. They have taught me so much about laughter, playing, fun, simple joy, and unconditional love. They have shown me again and again how to truly live and reminded me countless times of how to choose and share love expecting nothing in return.”

I am so blessed to enjoy the unconditional love, the joy, here described.  I highly recommend it.  Little wonder that volunteering at Better Beginnings is called, “sharing the joy.”

Making Every Second Count:

Better Beginnings, of course, depends on volunteers in order to fulfill its commitment to families and children.  Volunteer board members, classroom assistants, music makers, fund raisers, book readers, storytellers, office workers:  we need you.  Come share the joy.

If you would like to have a copy of the entire list of Signs of Inner Peace, please let me know.  (see below for snail and email addresses)  If not, stay tuned, the next two signs are tough, for me anyway. I got kicked in the nose a long time ago when I was a cheerleader and one of my teammate's cartwheel went astray.

For Some, Generosity is Second Nature:

Many thanks to our friends, the Jr. Friday Club, who donated toys, games and educational supplies; “Mr. Jonathan” Craig who brought snacks and whose weekly visits are always filled with good cheer; the PNC Bank who continues to collect school supplies; to Roger Hummel who donated tricycles, books, and toys; the VFW Ladies Auxiliary who purchased lots and lots of arts & learning supplies that will help us to provide a “home learning pack” for each child, encouraging families and children to

participate in interactive home funwork; Carol Jones who donated some very nice business suits, games and office supplies, to John Tamellini, Kevin Trayner, Robert Teffenhart, Theodore Lucas, Mark Warfield, who give through their United Way and Mrs. Francis Rios and Mildred Bell and Mr. And Mrs. Wilfred and Ondina Jeffers whose monthly contributions are most generous – we wish you all inner peace and a full measure of joy!

Second Time Around:

Penny Pincher suggests that when the jar of coffee or other grocery item is empty, that you save the lids.  For the young child, they

are wonderful for sorting by size, color, etc.   They can also be used as a stencil for drawing different sized circles.
