A Benefit for Better Beginnings
P.O. Box 187, Hightstown, NJ 08520

August, 2001

Dear Friend,

On Sunday, October 21, 2001 the Better Beginnings Child Care Center will be hosting the tenth annual Mayors’ "Shining Star" Charity Ball.  This year the Shining Star award will honor one very special person, Ms. Bettie Witherspoon.

At the end of December of last year, Ms. Witherspoon resigned her position as full-time Executive Director of Better Beginnings and has now become Director Emeritus.  Ms. Witherspoon has been involved in Better Beginnings for 33 years, first as a parent, volunteer and parent leader.  She then worked for the center as assistant teacher, group teacher, Center Administrator and then Executive Director starting in 1979.

Under Ms. Witherspoon’s extraordinary leadership, Better Beginnings has flourished as a center that has been designated a model agency, noted for its excellent care and education of young children.  She has received many honors and awards from local, state and national groups.  Because of Ms. Witherspoon’s initiative and commitment, Better Beginnings has developed a computer lab and computer literacy program for students and parents, an after-school violence prevention program for older children, a literacy mentor program and many educational workshops for parents.

Thanks to the dedication of its leaders, staff and supporters, Better Beginnings Child Care Center continues to provide affordable multicultural and bilingual child care for pre-school age children, along with programs in substance abuse prevention, violence reduction, and adult workshops.  Better Beginnings also gives priority to protective service children, who have been abused, abandoned or neglected, and was chosen for the Integrated Preschool Project in which specially trained teachers work at the center with students.  Better Beginnings is dedicated to providing the best educational and care opportunities for the children of our community.

As you know, donations and local support have kept the doors of Better Beginnings open to thousands of children and families for these 34 years. The daily care of children of working parents provides a great benefit to the workforce of our community.  In return, Better Beginnings has enjoyed outstanding corporate support.  Will you be a partner in this mutual benefit exchange?

We thank previous corporate sponsors: Allen & Stults, Americana Diner, Bell Atlantic, Centex Homes, Comcast Cable, Core States, Cultor Food Science, Diversified Rack & Shelving, Educational Testing Services, First Washington State Bank, GE Americom, McGraw-Hill, Romano’s Macaroni Grill, Mercer Title Services Agency, Minute Maid, Presbyterian Homes at Meadow Lakes, Sarnoff, Inc., Ramada Inn of East Windsor, Shroeder/Perez Architects, Systems Link, Windsor-Hights Herald and Yardville National Bank.  We hope these sponsors will continue their generous contributions and will be joined by many other corporate sponsors.

As a Corporate Sponsor at the $750 level, your business will have a reserved table for ten at the Ball and will be promoted in all media coverage.  In addition, your business will be featured with a full-page ad in our program books for the Charity Ball, the graduation, and the Thanksgiving fiesta.

For a contribution of $1,000, you will be recognized as a "silver star" sponsor with a plaque and special honor, in addition to the media coverage, advertisements and reserved table.

For a contribution of $1,500, you will be recognized as a "gold star" sponsor with a plaque and special honor, in addition to the media coverage, advertisements and reserved table.

For a contribution of $2,000, you will be recognized as a "platinum star" sponsor with a plaque and special honor, in addition to the media coverage, advertisements and reserved table.

For larger contributions, appropriate recognition will be given.

Your generosity is greatly appreciated by the children and families of Better Beginnings; please know that with your support and concern, you take a “Stand for Children” in our community. The staff of Better Beginnings cordially invites you to visit the center to see the exciting educational programs that are taking place.  Also, please visit Better Beginnings’ website at:   www.princetonol.com/groups/bbcdc  for current information about the center.

 Very truly yours,
