WeekEnd Fun-work

Parents are first and lasting teachers

Physical Development:
Fine Motor Control

Background
:
What We Know from Brain Research:  Nutrition, health and physical activity affect learning.  Movement stimulates connections in the brain.  A well-balanced diet, sufficient sleep, and plenty of exercise support healthy brain growth.   (Creative Curriculum, page 5)

Physical growth:   includes fine motor control and gross motor control.  Fine Motor control:  Using and coordinating the small muscles in hands and wrists with dexterity.  As they develop these skills, children are able to perform self-help skills and manipulate scissors and writing tools, etc.  (Creative Curriculum, page 20)  Curriculum objectives include controlling small muscles in hands; coordinating hand-eye movement; and using tools for writing and drawing. (Creative Curriculum, page 50).

Gross Motor Skills were covered in Week-end FunWork November 12 issue.
