I am “this many” Years Old

Background :    We know young students learn best when the learning activity is personal.  For this activity, the child will create a textured numeral showing his age that he can see and feel.

Objective:  Child will learn to visually and tactilely identify the numeral that shows his/her age.

Product:  A textured numeral indicating child's age.

Materials Needed: Pencil, paper, scissors, choice of yarn-string-sand-other, glue (stick or bottled).

Process:  Draw a large numeral on sheet of paper.  Encourage young student to apply glue all along the numeral, then add the texture item (yarn, string, sand, or other) to the glue.

Vocabulary words:  count, touch, feel, see, numeral

Skills/Learning Styles/Intelligences:  Visual, Kinesthetic, Spatial, Logical/mathematical

Extended Learning :  Encourage young student to make similar products for other numerals.  Go for a walk and look for numerals.  Provide items for young student to count and identify with the relevant numerals.

Yo tengo “estos años"

Historía:  Nosotros sabemos que los niños aprenden mejor, cuando la actividad de aprendizaje es personal.  Por esto, para esta actividad el niño creará números con textura, el cual mostrará la edad del niño de como se ven y sienten.

Objetivo:   Los niños aprenderán a visualizar y a identificar tactilmente los números que muestran su edad.

Producto:  Un número texturado que indica la edad del niño

Materiales que necesita:  Lápiz, papel, Tijeras, puede escoger entre: lana, cinta, arena, pegante liquido o de barra.

Instrucciones:  Que el niño dibuje el número correspondiente a su edad ( Ayudele en caso de que sea un poco dificil para él). Luego que el niño ponga pegante sobre todo el número dibujado y luego que pegue lo que él halla escogido.

Vocabulario:  Contar, tocar, sentir, ver, números

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/inteligencias:  Visual, Espacial, Lógica/matematica.

Enseñanza:   Anime al niño que haga  productos similares para otros números. Vaya a una caminata y busque los números. Proporcione los artículos para el niño cuente e identifique números relevantes.
