Water Transportation - 
Float my Boat
Caution:  Children must be supervised at all times while playing in water.

Background :   Sand and Water Play (excerpt from Chapter 12, "The Creative Curriculum for Preschool, 4th edition, Play with Sand and Water") involves sensory experiences that appeal to young children.  It also can challenge children's minds and promote all areas of development. Examples:  Literacy  Expands children's vocabulary and language.  Mathematics Young students count measuring cups of water are needed to fill a pail.. Use words such as more, less, and same to describe quantities. Science  Young students have many opportunities to learn about the earth and the environment through their everyday observations of sand and water  .Social Studies  Children have opportunity to work together, also may replicate what they have seen people do in the environment, such as how farmers irrigate fields, how engineers make dams, and how people at the seashore clean the beach.  Help children gain an understanding of people and how they live by encouraging them to role play with dump trucks, bulldozers, and rakes at the sand table. Arts  Young students may use water to make music, sculpture sand, etc.

Objective:  Young student has opportunity to discover that some things float and others sink in water.

Product:  A paper boat that floats!

Materials Needed: Tub of water, paper of several kinds, including paper plates, other materials as desired.

Process:  Provide young student with a tub or pail of water (or use the sink) and a variety of materials.  Ask him to drop the objects one by one in the water to see which ones float and which sink.  Ask him to make a paper boat out of one of the materials.  Boat may be decorated, a “sail” or other additions may be appended, all according to how creativity inspires.

Vocabulary words:  float, sink, water, boat, ship.

Hacer flotar mi barco
Precaución:  Los niños deben ser  supervisados  todo el tiempo mientras ellos juegan en el agua.

Historía:  Jugar con Agua y Arena (extraido del capítulo 12, de "El Curriculum Creativo para pre-escolares, Cuarta ( 4 ) edición, juego con agua y arena") implica experiencias sensoriales que llaman el interes de los niños y que ademas pueden desafiar las mentes de ellos y promover  todas las áreas del desarrollo; por ejemplo: La instrucción amplía el vocabulario y lenguaje de los niños. En matematicas los niños aprenden a saber cuantos vasos de agua ellos necesitan para llenar un cubo. Utilice las palabras tales como más, menos, e iguales para describir cantidades. En ciencias los niños tienen muchas oportunidades de aprender acerca de la tierra y el medio a través de la observación diaria.  En los estudios socials ellos tienen la oportunidad de trabajar juntos y comprender lo que la gente realize en cada medio que se encuentre por ejemplo:  Los granjeros riegan la tierra, como los ingenieros hacen las represas y como las personas encargadas de las playas y como las limpian. Ayudar a los niños a entender como la gente vive y apoyarlos en los juegos con camiones, carros recogedores de tierra. En Arte los niños pueden utilizar agua para hacer musica, esculpir la arena, etc.

Objetivo:  Los niños tienen la oportunidad de descubrir  sobre algunas cosas que flotan y sobre otras que se hunden.

Actividad:   Un bote de papel que flote.

Materiales que necesita:  Tina de baño, papel de varias clases, platos de papel, materials que usted crea puede utilizar para esta actividad.

Instrucciones:  Puede llenar la tina del baño con una cantidad de agua no mayor de la mitad, para evitar cualquier riesgo de accidente ( No deje sin supervision sus niños ) luego deje que su niño coloque algunos objetos que floten y que experimiente con lo sucedido y asi con los que no. Con la hoja de papel enseñele a realizar un bote y a decorarlo para que pueda jugar con él en el agua.

Vocabulario:  Flotar, undir, agua, bote, barco.

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/inteligencias:  Ciencias, literature, matematicas, sociales, arte.
