What’s Art Got to Do With Anything?
Part II

Background :   (From The Creative Curriculum for Preschool)  What can you do at Home? "Art is a very easy way to bring your child's school life into your home.  Children love to bring home their art products to share with the most important people in their lives.  Take time to talk with your child.  Here are some things you might say:  ' Tell me about your picture.'  'How did you decide which colors to use?'   'What do you like best about it?'  'Should we hang it up in a special place so we can all enjoy your work?' You can help your child appreciate art right in your home when you look at books together, talk about the illustrations with your child. Art is something your child can do at home in almost any room.  You might designate a drawer in the kitchen or living room as an art drawer, or use a bookshelf or sturdy cardboard box.  Include materials suggested below.  A child's mind is much more creative and artistic than any coloring book allows.

Product:  An original drawing, painting, or sculpture

Materials Needed: Whatever is desired, i.e., paper, colored pencils, markers, crayons, paints, scissors, play dough, clay, collage materials, glue, etc.

Process:  Provide young student with materials and let his creativity reign!

Vocabulary words:  draw, paint, sculpt, collage, clay.

Skills/Learning Styles/Intelligences: creativity, fine motor control, social/emotional development, cognitive development, language development; visual/spatial.

Extended Learning:  Make materials available so that young student may use them every day.  You may ask him, for instance, on arriving home from school and work, “Draw me a picture of something you did today.”

Historía:  (Del curriculum para Pre-escolar) Que podemos hacer en casa? “El arte es una via facil para traer la vida de la escuela a casa. Los niños disfrutan traer a casa todos los trabajos para compartirlos con la gente mas importante en su vida.  Tome tiempo para hablar con su niño.  Algunas ideas: - cuentame acerca de tu dibujo-  Porque decidiste usar esos colores? Que te gusta mas de tu dibujo? Crees que debemos colocarlo en un lugar especial para que todos lo puedan ver? Usted puede ayudar a su niño a apreciar el arte en casa cuando vean libros juntos, hablar de las ilustraciones con su niño. El arte es algo que su niño puede realizar en casa. Usted puede designar un lugar  de la cocina o la sala como un cajon de arte o usar un librero, en donde puede tener todos los materiales que el pueda necesitar, incluso algunos libros para colorear.

Objetivo:  Una original pintura, dibujo o escultura.

Materiales que necesita:  Como usted desee: Papel, lápiz, crayones, marcadores, pintura, Tijeras, materiales para un collage, pegante, etc.

Instrucciones:  Darle a los niños los materiales que él necesita para dejar trabajar su creatividad.

Vocabulario:  dibujo, pintura, escultura, collage, arcilla (clay).

Destrezas/estilos de aprendizaje/inteligencias:  Social/Emocional, creatividad, motricidad fina, Visual/especial (observación), desarrollo del lenguaje.

Enseñanza:  Hacer que los materiales esten disponibles para todos los dias. Usted puede pedirle, en su oportunidad, cuando llegue a casa despues de la escuela “que dibuje lo que él hizo el dia hoy.”
